Meet Brent Worth

Brent Worth and his wife live in Martinsville, where they are proud to lead a blended family. Brent has two adult children, a son and a daughter, and he and his wife are raising her eight-year-old son together. Brent’s vision for the Sheriff’s Office is built upon his 22 years of experience within the agency, the exceptional mentoring he has received from past Sheriffs, and a personal desire to ensure that Morgan County remains a safe and supportive place for every family to call home.

Service and Leadership

Brent Worth’s commitment to Morgan County is defined by nearly 40 years of public safety experience and a distinguished 22-year career with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. His public service began in 1986 when he became a volunteer for a small-town ambulance and rescue service. That early dedication evolved into a career at the Sheriff’s Office that spanned more than two decades, during which Brent rose from a Reserve Deputy to the rank of Captain. While working patrol, he became a Certified Crime Scene Investigator and Certified Hostage/Crisis Negotiator. He also extended his training in Medico Legal Death Investigations, Domestic Related Homicides, and served as a member of the Death Investigation Team.

During his time as a Detective Sergeant, he specialized in investigating crimes against people and property, serving as a vital member of the Sexual Abuse Response Team, and the Morgan County Child Advocacy Team. His commitment to seeking justice for children led him to pursue advanced training in sensitive areas, including the investigation of illegal online child exploitation, cellular technology data recovery, and interviewing techniques for crimes against children. This period of his career was defined by a commitment to protecting the most vulnerable and ensuring that complex investigations were handled with the highest level of expertise. 

As Brent transitioned into the command staff, he was promoted to Lieutenant and in 2014, Brent was promoted to Captain, a rank he held for nine years of his career with the Sheriff’s Office. In this command staff role, he was tasked with the critical oversight of department functions, fiscal planning, and policy development. His leadership remains grounded in real-world crisis management; in 2018, he was awarded the Medal of Valor for his role as a crisis negotiator during a hostage rescue.

For the last two years, Brent has leveraged this extensive background in law enforcement and command-level leadership to serve as the Chief Executive Administrator for Morgan County EMS. He was recruited for this role by Morgan County leaders who recognized his lifelong dedication to the community, his proven leadership, and his record of fiscal responsibility. This transition allowed him to apply decades of operational experience to a new executive arena while strengthening his collaborative relationships with local leaders and his dedication to the county's emergency response infrastructure.
